Ok, a few months ago a dear elderly lady in our church had to go into a home for a few weeks. The home was not far from my daughter’s school and I thought ‘why don’t we both go and visit?’ It was in my power to act and so we went one night after school. It was just for an hour but we went and took goodies and I sat on the bed watching my 6 yr old girl try to show a 98 yr old lady how to play on Nintendo DS.
As we visited we also became aware of how many elderly people were not visited. They were sat in a room staring at 4 blank walls! How would you like that view all day? So many of those beautiful elderly people would give anything for a cuppa and a chat.
Girls, can you give time for a cuppa and chat? That is this month’s challenge! Who can you visit? Find out if there is someone in your street or in the local hospice that you could visit and just go give some time. Be a ray of sunshine. Take a friend along.
Young people go and learn from those elderly people and let them see that the future is bright with young people like you around. So the cuppa challenge is launched. Who can you go and have a cuppa with? Let me know your stories and get the kettle on! Let’s be Urban Angels to those that are lonely. It will enrich you and their world!

iN THE SUMMER HOLIDAY WE RAN AN ALL WEEK CHILDREN AND YOUTH CAMP FOR THE LOCAL COMMUHNITY,WE HAD ABOUT 80 CHILDREN EVERY DAY AND WE ENDED IT WITH A BBQ FOR THE CHILDEN FAMILIES ON THE SUNDAY.
wE ALSO TOOK PART IN A COMMUNITY FUN DAY AND WE DID FREE FACE PAINTING FOR EVERYONE, IT WAS GREAT FUN DESPITE THE RAIN.
THIS WEEKEND WE ARE HAVING OUR FIRST COMMUNITY PICNIC,WE ARE HITTING A HUGE ESTATE WITH OUR PICNICS,MASS IN NUMBER AND PREPARING A BBQ FOR ANYONE WHO WANTS TO JOIN US.
Every two months the children of the church go and visit the local nursing homes and we do church kids style. the Elderly love us coming and we are building a great relationship with the homes. This ministry has been running for over two years and the kids love it as well do the old people.
On a personal level, one of my neighbours husband has left her so we as a family are trying to support her, through friendship, doing odd jobs in the house to help her get back to some normality.
In Oct we are having our ladies meal where you buy a ticket for a non christian friend we have fun, laughs and pampered fromthe men serving us in the church..
i think urban angels is a class vision and i’m proud to be apart of it.
I love this idea, this has been on my heart for a long time. I used to sing with a group at a Nursing home at Christmas, the residents loved it. There are so many people on their own who have no family, no one to talk with all day. Working in a Supermarket showed me how many lonely elderly folk’s there are out in our Community.
What a simple but lovely idea.We are never too young or too old to be an urban angel!Your six year old is being one without even knowing it! Wow!
Hi!
Just wanted to give an update on recent events, all brought on by this challenge. Well, monthly from the 10th October myself and others from Church including the kids are heading to the local Nursing homes. I will be singing, words will be printed out for the residents to join in. We will be handing out bags of treats for each resident, and baking cakes for the employee’s. Will also have the chance for a cuppa lots of chatting too. Thanks for the inspiration to do this.
